Most of you will probably agree when I say that without coffee, I am nothing.
Okay, maybe that’s a bit dramatic, BUT, I do love my coffee.
Do you watch your hard-earned money go to the Starbucks down the road too often?
Last year, my husband became obsessed with cold brews with sweet cream.
We were spending $15.00+ dollars a week on coffee at one point. It needed to stop.
We had tried all the pre-made coffee creamers. We found some we liked, but most of them tasted off.
One day, I decided to look at the ingredients. Have you ever done that?
What’s in store-bought creamer?
I was baffled when I read the label.
Mainly because other than the first three ingredients, I didn’t know what the rest were. AND only ONE ingredient made sense to me for a creamer.
Here’s what my store-bought creamers typically contained:
- Water
- Sugar
- Sunflower oil
- Sodium caseinate
- dipotassium phosphate
- polysorbate 60
- mono and diglycerides – fatty acids,
- Added color
- sodium stearoyl
- Lactylate
- Salt
- sucralose
- carrageenan
13 ingredients in a coffee creamer – none of which are actually cream.
I try not to be wasteful, so we finished the store-bought creamer and never returned.
Homemade Coffee Creamer
The day I threw out the chemically, no actual cream in it, creamer bottle, I was on a mission to make the best-tasting creamer from home.
It took a few tries to get it right, but I finally made a homemade creamer that we love.
I couldn’t contain myself. When friends and family came over, I was elated to offer them a cup of coffee with my own homemade sweet cream.
After sharing the recipe with some family members, I realized that this would be the best recipe to share with you first.
Why?
Because:
- It’s super easy.
- It only has four ingredients.
- This homemade creamer is absolutely delicious.
I’ve seen so many recipes for homemade creamers and I’ve tried plenty. Some say take up to two hours.
Frankly, if you’re anything like me, you don’t have two hours to devote to a creamer; but many you do.
This coffee creamer takes me less than 15 minutes to make from start to finish.
Homemade Sweet Cream Ingredients:
- Heavy whipping cream
- Vanilla extract or one vanilla bean
- Whole milk
- Sugar
I promise you, if you like sweet cream, once you try this homemade coffee creamer, you’re never going to be able to go back.
Want the recipe? I was hoping you would!
Homemade Coffee Creamer Recipe
There are a few kitchen supplies you’ll need and as I mentioned early, 4 ingredients for this recipe. Easy-peasy right? Let’s get started!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Kitchen supplies:
- A small pot
- Measuring cups
- Paring knife
- Four cup container
- Whisk
Ingredients:
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 TBSP Vanilla extract or 1/2 vanilla bean
- 1 cup sugar
Homemade coffee creamer Instructions:
- Pour two cups of heavy cream into a small pot. Heat over medium heat until it begins to bubble.
- Add in one cup of sugar and stir with your whisk continuously for two minutes.
- Whisk in your vanilla extract and remove the pot from the heat.
- Stir in two cups of whole milk.
- Pour into a four-cup container and let it cool.
- When finished cooling, place in the fridge.
- Viola! It’s done! Add this creamer to your favorite coffees – iced or hot – just shake it before use!
** If you are using 1/2 a vanilla bean instead of the vanilla extract, split the vanilla bean in half using your paring knife. Scrape out the insides and place both the scrapping and the bean shell into the heavy cream in step 1. Don’t worry about taking the shell out once you’re done cooking, it gives the creamer extra flavor.
